Love your dog (or cat)? Then you'll love pet-friendly Eastlands Mature Lifestyle Estate!

We know how important your pets are to you; more than just animals, they’re your companions, your comrades and your confidants.

It was with this in mind that we specifically designed Eastlands Mature Lifestyle Estate as a pet-friendly village, and we are proud to be one of the few pet-friendly retirement estates in Johannesburg.

Various research studies from around the world show that elderly people who share their lives with animals, notably dogs and cats, enjoy numerous benefits as a result of their furry friendships.

One Australian study at the Baker Medical Research Institute in Melbourne revealed that pet owners had lower blood pressure, and triglyceride and cholesterol levels than non-owners.

Another study, undertaken at the University of Melbourne's Veterinary Clinical Centre, presented among the strongest evidence yet of a connection between animals and human health – that pet owners have significantly reduced levels of known risk factors for cardiovascular disease.

Over and above this, doctors and therapists agree pets provide an opportunity for exercise and socialisation, and taking care of a pet encourages elderly owners to take better care of themselves too.

Animal companionship may, the experts say, dramatically improve the quality of pet owners’ lives and even have a positive impact on their longevity.

We have taken all this into account in the design of Eastlands. Aside from our pet-friendly garden units, we also have several walking trails and abundant parklands, which are all suited to walking and exercising dogs.

Each home is allowed to have a maximum of two pets. This can be either a dog and a cat, two cats or two dogs. The criteria for keeping dogs is that their height cannot exceed 60cm and they must weigh less than 25kg. Owners are also required to obtain permission from the estate manager for their animals, and to fence in their gardens (at their own cost) to ensure their pets’ safety.

If you’re a pet owner and are looking for your forever home where your animals are welcome too, look no further than Eastlands!
